How is China's acephate production capacity and market structure evolving?
China's acephate industry is consolidating around a few large players. ADAMA (formerly Sanonda) holds the largest capacity, with plans to reach 30,000 tonnes per year of acephate and 50,000 tonnes of the key intermediate methamidophos (O,O-dimethyl thiophosphoramide) after completing its Jingzhou site relocation and upgrade. Total domestic methamidophos capacity is around 85,000 tonnes, but output has been volatile, peaking at 62,700 tonnes in 2018 before falling to roughly 44,900 tonnes by 2021 due to environmental inspections and weaker acephate demand. Smaller producers are exiting as stricter registration, production licensing, and environmental rules raise entry barriers. Industry policy favors fewer, larger enterprises, with ADAMA already ranking first nationally in acephate and methamidophos capacity.

    Watch the feedstock side too. Methamidophos synthesis patents are being updated to cut water use and improve efficiency, which could lower production costs for integrated players. Non-integrated acephate makers without captive methamidophos supply will face margin pressure as environmental compliance costs keep rising.
