Calcium nitrite is a key raw material for concrete antifreeze, early strength, and rebar corrosion-inhibiting admixtures. It is highly soluble, allowing formulation into both liquid and powder admixtures that can lower the freezing point of construction water down to -20°C, enabling winter concreting. It also passivates steel reinforcement, extending the service life of concrete structures, and is chlorine-free and alkali-free, which reduces alkali-aggregate reactions and boosts early compressive strength. Chinese demand is tied closely to the construction cycle, especially in northern regions with harsh winters. Supply is concentrated among a few large nitrite producers, and output is often co-produced with sodium nitrite or calcium nitrate routes. Buyers should track construction starts, winter infrastructure tenders, and the operating rates of major nitrite plants in Shanxi and Shandong, as these are the primary price and availability drivers.
