How does integrated production change ethylene tar sourcing economics?
Leading coating-material producers are shifting from buying coumarone resin to sourcing ethylene tar directly and running integrated lines. In the integrated route, tar skips the intermediate resin stage and moves through blending, separation and polymerization straight into coating production. That eliminates resin packaging, warehousing, inspection and transport costs, and removes the cooling-pelletizing and re-melting steps, cutting energy use and labor. Estimated savings run around 1,000 yuan per ton, with some analyses putting the range at 700-1,000 yuan. Going upstream also lets producers control technical parameters and impurities, improving product consistency. Proximity to petrochemical bases with pipeline-fed, higher-quality tar adds further cost advantage.

Integration is a margin play, not just a cost play. Controlling tar quality upstream lets producers push toward higher-softening-point coating grades, which carry better margins as anode makers chase fast-charging performance. The strategic value may exceed the headline per-ton savings.
