How do tightening phthalate regulations affect DCP demand in PVC applications?
Regulatory pressure on ortho-phthalates is reshaping the entire plasticizer slate, and DCP is not exempt. Enforcement has focused hard on consumer-facing soft PVC, especially children's products. A survey of 50 PVC children's sandals bought across five e-commerce platforms found 25 samples exceeding phthalate limits, a 50% failure rate, with reported exceedances reaching hundreds of times the threshold. Those findings drive both retailer delisting and buyer caution. In response, the market has shifted toward DOTP, which contains no phthalate and is accepted under REACH-oriented sourcing, and toward DINP and DINCH where higher performance or food-contact compliance is needed. DCP, as an ortho-phthalate, inherits the same reputational and compliance burden as DOP, even where its technical performance remains adequate for industrial uses such as cable and film compounds.
