Export volumes rose in August and are expected to remain at elevated levels in September.

Lead-in: In August 2026, China’s styrene import and export market maintained the pattern of low imports and high exports. Exports rebounded from July’s low level to 113,600 metric tons, a month-on-month increase of 42.86%, while year-on-year growth remained exceptionally high. Imports rose slightly to 12,500 metric tons; although this represented a substantial month-on-month surge of 196.37%, the volume remained at a low level with limited impact on the domestic market, underscoring China’s strong self-sufficiency in styrene supply.
