During this period, domestic DOTP market prices stabilized after an initial rise, trading at high levels. In the Zhejiang region, weekly quotes ranged from CNY 10,350 to CNY 10,650 per ton. Following the National Day holiday, international crude oil prices rose due to geopolitical tensions, strengthening the overall chemical sector sentiment. Both major DOTP raw materials, n-octanol and PTA, increased simultaneously, shifting the cost center upward and boosting market confidence. Additionally, downstream enterprises conducted phased restocking after the holiday, and traders concentrated on covering short positions, rapidly revitalizing DOTP trading activity. Increased transaction volumes drove a strong price rally. However, as the phased restocking demand was exhausted and DOTP prices reached their year-to-date highs, buyers became more cautious, new order transactions slowed, and upward price momentum faced pressure. Meanwhile, the decline in PTA prices dampened market sentiment, resulting in a mix of positive and negative factors on the cost side. Downstream buyers primarily engaged in opportunistic procurement based on rigid demand, leaving DOTP prices without clear directional drivers. Consequently, the market entered a stalemate consolidation phase in the second half of the week.
The capacity utilization rate of domestic DOTP plants rose during this period, with an average load of approximately 56%.
On Thursday of this week, the ex-factory price of DOTP in the Zhejiang market was CNY 10,600/ton, up CNY 250/ton from the previous Thursday.
On Thursday of this week, the price of the main raw material n-octanol rose by CNY 650/ton compared to the previous Thursday, while the other raw material PTA fell by CNY 628/ton.
It is expected that domestic DOTP market prices will continue to consolidate at high levels next week. The projected price range for the Zhejiang region is CNY 10,500–10,700 per ton.
On the cost side, the core raw material n-octanol remains in a state of cost inversion, supporting sellers' willingness to maintain prices and providing floor support for the market. However, transactions at higher prices are gradually slowing, limiting the upside potential for n-octanol prices. For the other raw material, PTA, supply-demand balance sheets indicate expectations of slight inventory accumulation, leading to significant uncertainty on the cost front and suggesting weak oscillating trends. Overall, DOTP costs face mixed bullish and bearish factors, with bottom support present but limited upward momentum.
On the demand side, performance remains lackluster. Downstream acceptance of current high DOTP prices is low, with procurement mainly consisting of opportunistic purchases based on rigid demand, which fails to effectively drive price increases.
Overall, the tug-of-war between bulls and bears in the DOTP market continues, restricting both upside and downside space. It is expected that the market will maintain a narrow-range consolidation at high levels next week. Future developments should closely monitor geopolitical situations, remaining vigilant against risks of rapid reversals in crude oil sentiment causing market volatility.
