Lead: This week, multiple units including Zhejiang Petrochemical's Line 1, Hainan Refining & Chemical, and Wuhan Petrochemical are undergoing planned maintenance. Domestic supply continues to shrink. Additionally, expected port arrivals remain low, keeping the overall supply tight. With low feedstock inventories downstream and support from essential demand, the diethylene glycol market has been strengthening recently.
During the period, due to weak downstream orders, purchasing enthusiasm was dampened, and shipments from East China main ports further contracted, leading to a slight accumulation of port inventory. However, with multiple units undergoing planned maintenance this week, domestic supply continues to shrink. Coupled with low expected port arrivals, there is an expectation of continued destocking at ports. Downstream feedstock inventories are low, supported by essential demand procurement. This week, the domestic diethylene glycol market price continued to strengthen. As of June 11, the East China spot price rose to 7,300 RMB/ton.

Recently, Hainan Refining & Chemical, Zhejiang Petrochemical Line 1, and Wuhan Petrochemical have entered maintenance periods, and domestic supply is expected to continue contracting. Next week, although Ningbo Fude is scheduled to restart, the overall supply is still expected to remain reduced. Additionally, there are no port arrivals planned in the near term. According to the expected arrival schedule, the next shipment is expected around June 20, and main port inventory is likely to hit a new historical low again.
In the short term, with domestic production shrinking and imports remaining low, the overall supply of diethylene glycol stays at a low level. Although downstream buyers lack the momentum to chase higher prices due to weak orders and mainly purchase on essential demand, low feedstock inventories combined with tight spot supply support the market. In the short term, the East China diethylene glycol market will maintain a strong pattern.
