With Henan as the benchmark, DBP closed today at RMB 10400–10400/t, in line with morning expectations. Domestic DBP market prices moved higher today. Feedstock n-butanol and phthalic anhydride prices have continued to climb, sharply intensifying the cost pressure on DBP while providing strong support to its price. At the same time, market supply is limited, and downstream buyers are purchasing only to meet essential needs while showing some resistance to high prices. As a result, market inquiries and concluded deals were mediocre, and a wait-and-see atmosphere has strengthened.

3. Production Dynamics

Today, the domestic DBP capacity utilization rate stood at 46%. The current profit level for DBP is around RMB 139/t.

4. Price Forecast

For the time being, both feedstocks remain at elevated levels and are still expected to rise further, so strong cost support is underpinning prices. Supplies in the market were tight yesterday, downstream buying is on a need-to basis, and resistance to high prices is growing, leaving market inquiries and concluded deals mediocre. Market prices are expected to fluctuate with an upward bias tomorrow.

5. Related Products

DOP market: Today, prices of feedstock octanol and phthalic anhydride rose, pushing DOP market prices further up. Supply was slightly tight in some regions, and mainstream traders remained focused on shipping cargoes. However, with the weekend approaching and prices at high levels, buying interest among downstream end users weakened, and the intraday trading atmosphere was mediocre.

With DBP operating rate at just 46% and feedstock costs climbing, I see near-term price support, though weak need-based downstream buying could cap rallies and squeeze margins.
