After the National Day holiday, there was no substantive improvement in the fundamentals of the acrylonitrile market. However, strong cost-side support emerged as feedstock propylene and synthetic ammonia prices rose significantly. This led to a marked increase in production losses for acrylonitrile, prompting suppliers to hold firm on prices and push them upward. Nevertheless, supply-demand contradictions persist; with overall supply remaining ample, upward momentum faces resistance, resulting in limited price gains.
The weekly average operating rate for domestic acrylonitrile was 75.3%, an increase of 2.46 percentage points from the previous week.
As of October 8, acrylonitrile enterprise inventories stood at 45,000 tons, an increase of 4,500 tons from the previous week.
The weekly operating rate for the ABS industry was 55.2%, while that for the acrylic fiber industry remained around 70.38%.
The weekly average profit for acrylonitrile production was -1,598 CNY/ton, a decrease of 465 CNY/ton compared to the previous week.
Acrylonitrile market prices are expected to continue rising next week. In the short term, propylene prices will likely remain volatile at elevated levels, sustaining cost-side pressure and driving passive price increases for acrylonitrile. Additionally, as production losses widen, localized passive production cuts cannot be ruled out, which would further support price appreciation. However, persistent weakness in end-user demand will continue to cap potential price gains.
