China Methanol Production and Capacity Utilization Rate Weekly Data Analysis (July 10–16, 2026)

1. Qualitative Analysis of China's Methanol Output and Capacity Utilization Trends

During this week (July 10–16, 2026), China’s methanol output totaled 1,907,045 tonnes, down 74,160 tonnes from the previous week. The capacity utilization rate was 84.57%, down 3.74% week on week.

Units newly entering maintenance this period included Xinxiang Zhongxin, Anhui Haoyuan, Changzhi Nanyao, Jiangsu SOPO, Shanxi Linxin, Xinjiang Yankuang, Tangshan Zhongrun, Anhui Huayi, and one unit each in Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, and Shandong. New capacity reductions were implemented at Jiangsu SOPO, Xinjiang Zhongtai, and one unit in Inner Mongolia. Meanwhile, units that had previously been under maintenance or operating at reduced rates resumed operation, including Qinghai Salt Lake, Guizhou Tianfu, and Jinmei Huayu. Because the total output loss in this period exceeded the restored volume, output declined and capacity utilization fell.

2. Forecast Analysis of Output and Capacity Utilization Trends

Next week, China’s methanol output is expected to be approximately 1.9283 million tonnes, and the capacity utilization rate is expected to be approximately 85.51%, both up from this period. Since the capacity scheduled to resume operations next week is greater than the capacity scheduled for maintenance or output reductions, output and capacity utilization are expected to increase.

3. Comparison of Capacity Utilization and Price Trends

This week, China’s methanol capacity utilization rate was 84.57%, down 3.74% week on week and up 2.25% year on year. Domestic methanol capacity utilization declined over the week, and actual output decreased significantly. At the same time, renewed geopolitical conflicts, a sharp rally in futures, improved buying interest, and supportive supply-demand fundamentals pushed up transaction prices in major producing regions.

Term definitions: Output generally refers to the quantity of products that a producer actually produces during a period and that meet relevant standards. It is not based on commercial quantity, but denotes the product weight or volume under a specified measurement system, i.e., actual output.

Capacity utilization: This reflects the degree to which a producer’s capacity is utilized, also referred to as operating load. It is generally calculated as the ratio of product output or raw material throughput to effective capacity.

Statistical scope: Weekly output and capacity utilization are measured for the period from Friday of the previous week to Thursday of the current week. Data are published at 14:30 every Thursday on working days.
