Wanhua Chemical plans to add 200,000 tons per year of ethylene carbonate capacity in each of two phases, on top of the existing 60,000 tons per year, bringing the total capacity to 500,000 tons per year. The expectation of a significant increase in supply is likely to exert downward pressure on spot prices, as the risk of market oversupply rises, which is bearish for the spot market.
