Chempricehub Alert: Impact of Sichuan Tianhua's BDO Plant Restart

Published on 2026-01-03

December 29th News: On December 29th, some domestic BDO plants resumed operations: Sichuan Tianhua’s BDO Phase I (25,000 tons/year) and Phase II (60,000 tons) units, which underwent maintenance on December 4th, were restarted on December 27th. The BDO produced is primarily supplied to downstream PTMEG and GBL production, with no external pricing offered. Chempricehub Analysis on 1,4-Butanediol: Bull-Bear Score: -1. Sichuan Tianhua’s BDO units resumed operations on December 27th, with Phase I (25,000 tons/year) and Phase II (60,000 tons) capacities restored, increasing market supply. The rise in supply typically exerts downward pressure on spot prices, potentially leading to a decline in 1,4-butanediol prices. Although the BDO is mainly used for internal production of downstream PTMEG and GBL, with no external pricing offered, the overall increase in supply still poses a generally bearish impact on the market.
