Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) announced in a press release on the 24th that the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant for the 2025 fiscal year (April 2025 to March 2026) concluded on the same day, with a total of approximately 55,000 tons of nuclear-contaminated water released.
The press release stated that all seven discharges of nuclear-contaminated water for the 2025 fiscal year have been completed, totaling 55,011 tons, with the total radioactive tritium content amounting to approximately 16 trillion becquerels. The company plans to carry out eight discharges of nuclear-contaminated water in the 2026 fiscal year, totaling approximately 62,400 tons.
Despite strong doubts and opposition from the international community, Japan unilaterally and forcibly initiated the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean in August 2023. As of now, a total of 18 discharges have been completed, with a cumulative discharge volume of approximately 141,000 tons.
