Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on the 2nd that Hungary has filed a lawsuit with the European Court of Justice against the EU's "REPowerEU" energy plan regulations, opposing the prohibition on member states importing Russian crude oil and natural gas. Szijjártó released a video on social media that day, stating that the aforementioned regulations have officially come into effect, and the related measures will endanger Hungary's energy security and impact the government's utility price control policy for residents. Therefore, Hungary has requested the European Court of Justice to annul these regulations. Szijjártó believes that once Hungary loses Russian energy supplies, it will have to turn to more expensive and less reliable alternatives, making it difficult to ensure stable energy supply and maintain the current energy price policy for residents. He pointed out that the EU treaties should grant member states the right to independently decide on the sources and conditions of energy procurement. The regulations in this energy plan exceed the authority of the European Commission, as prohibiting energy imports requires a formal sanctions procedure and unanimous agreement from member states, which this regulation did not follow. At the same time, the regulation violates the EU principle of energy solidarity and undermines Hungary's energy supply security.
