Chempricehub Important Reminder: Impact of Shutdown at Huichang Yonghe Facility

Published on 2026-01-29

On January 27, the 100,000-ton/year methanol-based methyl chloride unit at Huichang Yonghe was shut down on January 20, 2026, with the restart time pending. Chempricehub's analysis of chloroform shows a long-short score of 1.5: the shutdown of the unit has led to a reduction in chloroform supply, and the uncertain restart time may cause short-term supply tightness. As a major product of methyl chloride, the supply disruption is expected to drive up spot prices, which is favorable for the market. Methanol, with a long-short score of -1: the unit uses methanol-based production, and the shutdown has reduced raw material demand, potentially lowering spot and futures prices for methanol. Although the main methanol contract (e.g., MA2605) has shown a recent upward trend (up 59 yuan), the demand decline caused by this event will create downward pressure, making it bearish in the short term.
