Chempricehub Alert: Yulong Petrochemical's MMA Project Successfully Put into Operation
Published on 2026-03-16

March 16th — Recently, the 100,000-ton/year methyl methacrylate (MMA) project undertaken by Shandong Branch of China National Chemical Engineering Third Construction Co., Ltd. for Yulong Petrochemical has been successfully put into operation, producing qualified MMA and ammonium sulfate products. This project is part of the supporting facilities for the Yulong Island Refining and Chemical Integration Project (Phase I). The MMA produced serves as a key raw material for manufacturing high-end materials such as PMMA, primarily used in high-end applications like optical lenses. With an investment of 1.6 billion yuan, the project has an annual production capacity of 84,000 tons of MMA and a by-product output of 180,500 tons of ammonium sulfate.

Chempricehub Analysis:
Methyl Methacrylate (MMA), Bull-Bear Score: -1
The commissioning of the Yulong Petrochemical project adds an annual supply of 84,000 tons of MMA, which may exert downward pressure on spot market prices. Although the new capacity is intended for high-end PMMA materials, the short-term supply growth may outpace demand, resulting in a generally bearish impact.

Ammonium Sulfate, Bull-Bear Score: -1
The project’s by-product ammonium sulfate has an annual output of 180,500 tons, significantly increasing supply and potentially suppressing spot market prices. As a raw material for fertilizers, the additional supply, against a backdrop of stable demand, is likely to trigger price competition, resulting in a generally bearish rating.
