With the mechanical completion of a new production line in Map Ta Phut Industrial Park in Thailand, Covestro has further increased its global production capacity for polycarbonate (PC) specialty films. The project, which represented an investment of tens of millions of euros, has been completed as planned. A total of around 40 new jobs will be created.
“The new production facility is equipped with advanced technology for efficient production and thus reduces CO2 emissions. By expanding our production capacity, we can meet the growing demand for innovative specialty films from our customers in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in the field of medical technology, and strengthen our Solutions & Specialties division,” said Thorsten Dreier, Chief Technology Officer of Covestro.
Covestro has been operating a plant for the production of specialty films in Thailand since 2007. Products include polycarbonate films from the Makrofol? range and Bayfol? products made from polycarbonate blends. These high-performance specialty films are used in many applications in multiple industries, such as healthcare, mobility and identity documents.
"The new production facility is important for us because it accelerates time to market while expanding our market access in the Asia Pacific region," said Aukje Doornbos, Global Head of the Specialty Films Business Entity. "We want to drive growth at Covestro through market-focused innovation and a stronger customer orientation."
Since 2022, the Matap plant has been ISCC PLUS certified and is able to produce and supply mass-balanced products. This saves fossil raw materials and reduces CO2 emissions, while the quality of the mass-balanced products is the same as that of purified fossil-based products. With this direct solution, manufacturers can continue to use their proven recipes, equipment and processes. SILICA">
